As someone who is passionate about the well-being of children and families, I have dedicated more than 27 years to this purpose in various capacities. My life path has given me extensive experiences in a variety of settings from working with children and their families in schools and churches to seniors and their families at a skilled nursing facility to chaplain at a large plant.
I began my studies at Appalachian State University and later moved to Asheville, NC where I completed my undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Mars Hill College. After teaching for several years in the public schools, I accepted a staff position in a church where I was able to continue my work with children and families.
I spent several years in ministry to children and youth until I began to feel a pull for something more. Following the higher calling of my heart, I returned to school and earned a Master of Divinity degree with concentrations in Pastoral Counseling and Spirituality from Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA.
Most recently, I completed advanced certification as a practitioner in Somatic Experiencing, a therapy modality developed by Dr. Peter Levine. Dr. Levine has doctorates in both medical biophysics and psychology and has worked in the field of stress and trauma for more than 40 years. He is the founder of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, the accredited organization responsible for training professionals in the area of Somatic Experiencing and trauma healing. My skills in leadership and teaching were recognized by the SE Trauma Institute faculty and I was honored with an invitation to assist in training. This has given me the opportunity to work closely with some of the most highly credentialed professionals in the field of Somatic Experiencing.
My studies also include in-depth training and field-related workshops in the following:
With extensive training, certifications, and continuing education I am able to offer my clients innovative therapy and useful tools to help them reach their full potential. In the camp environment, I pull from experiences in education, sensory training, ministry, and social work to create a sacred space for children to explore the world and strengthen self-regulation skills.
I am always happy to hear from you, so please don't hesitate to contact me should you have questions or concerns.
