Every day at JOURNEY Camp will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Morning Ceremonies. This time together is very important, as it helps travelers make the transition from home…to a day at camp. Please make sure your child is signed in no later than 8:45 a.m. Parents/guardians are encouraged to accompany their child on the walk from Mamaw’s Garden to the Ball Field, where we will gather around the flagpole. Ms. Jennifer will talk about the day ahead, we will sing our camp song, and raise the JOURNEY Camp flag followed by each child’s personal flag. The children’s’ flags will fly all day to remind them of their value and importance in this world.
An Important Note About Monday Mornings:
This time will literally represent the beginning of your child's journey with us and is a vital part of your child’s successful transition from home into JOURNEY Camp. If there is ever a time to experience sensory overload, this will be it! All sensory experiences will be new. Children may smell fresh paint, cut grass, or chlorine from the pool. Visually, nothing will be familiar...sounds will be coming from many directions...the ground they walk on will feel different, etc. All of these factors combined present the potential for some children to experience a "sensory traffic jam". In an effort to be proactive and conscientious, there are several things we can do to insulate our new campers from feeling overwhelmed.
