Somatic Experiencing Information

The SE Trauma Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to resolving trauma worldwide by providing state-of-the-art professional training and public education in Somatic Experiencing® (SE™). SE is a powerful psychobiological method for addressing physical and emotional trauma, PTSD​, overwhelm, and stress-related conditions. Through our membership association we support the self-organization of a broad international network of passionate, skillful SE practitioners who serve individuals in need and communities in crisis around the globe.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) brings a singular and comprehensive focus to childhood trauma. NCTSN’s collaboration of frontline providers, researchers, and families is committed to raising the standard of care while increasing access to services. Combining knowledge of child development, expertise in the full range of child traumatic experiences, and dedication to evidence-based practices, the NCTSN changes the course of children’s lives by changing the course of their care.

Jennifer's work has been informed by experts across the Somatic Experiencing field as well as through participation is specialized workshops. 

Dr. Peter Levine

Dr. Levine received his PhD in medical biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley, and also holds a doctorate in psychology from International University. He has worked in the field of stress and trauma for over 40 years and is the developer of “Somatic Experiencing®.” Levine’s original contribution to the field of Body Psychotherapy was honored in 2010 when he received the Lifetime Achievement award from the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP).

Ana do Valle

Ana do Valle, OTR, SEP is an Occupational Therapist who specializes in self regulation with infants (birth trauma), children and adults. She is a body centered therapist, certified in Sensory Integration and Neuro-Developmental Approach. She has experience working with trauma resultant from cultural fragmentation and she has studied cross-cultural perspectives of trauma with indigenous and shamanic communities in South America.


Ana has developed a program for Preventing Surgical Trauma addressing the needs of children and adults undergoing medical procedures. Ana has 30-years experience in the area of Physical Medicine. She has worked with clients suffering from Fibromyalgia, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Chronic Pain and other diagnosis related to the autonomic nervous system dysregulation.

Ariel Giarretto

Ariel Giarretto MFT, SEP, LMT has been specializing in the treatment of both shock and developmental trauma since 1993. She practices in the US, Europe, and Canada as a somatic psychotherapist, a teacher and consultant. She works closely with Dr Levine, and is a practitioner and teacher of his model. She is intimately involved with the SE training programs and assists and mentors students worldwide.

Dr. Diane Poole Heller

Diane Poole Heller, PhD. is an established expert in the field of Adult Attachment Theory and Models, trauma resolution and integrative healing techniques. She is the developer and trainer of the two year training DARe (Dynamic Attachment Re-Patterning Experience) series on Adult Attachment, Trauma, Attachment Models and their dynamics in childhood and adult relationships, as well as many other topics. She has lectured and taught around the world.

David Berger

Dave Berger, LCMHC, PT, MA, SE Faculty has practiced physical therapy and psychotherapy for 29 years, uniquely integrating his practices for clients with physical pain and movement problems, trauma histories, back and neck problems, PTSD, and anxiety disorders. He uses a diverse array of traditional and complementary healing practices. Dave is a certified Somatic Experiencing practitioner, consultant and faculty trainer in SE, In addition to teaching the Somatic Experiencing model, Dave also teaches a post-advanced training in BASE™, Bodywork and Somatic Education for trauma therapists.
